Becoming a Leader
Congratulations! After all your hard work, you've finally obtained the ability to rise from your position as a normal agent and become the Captain of them. With the higher rank, however, you are expected to handle situations more responsibly and show that you really know what you're doing; you're a role model for other agents now. Let's go over some of the things that you gain through this role.
The Agent Captain role is considered a Command/Security role, and requires a total of 100 hours of playtime to unlock; it is not a Trusted-only position.
A Captain's Goals
As the Agent Captain, you have one primary task above all: lead the other Agents to ensure that the shift goes as smoothly as possible. However, as you are still also sitting in the role of an Agent yourself, you share their responsibilities. In general, here are some of the key goals that you'll be expected to accomplish during your time:
Major Tasks
- Perform the standard duties of normal Agents; this means performing works, refining PE Boxes during downtime if there are any, and giving hostile entities the smackdown.
- Set a positive example by acting quickly during dangerous scenarios (such as being the first to fight the threat during breaches or Ordeals).
- Ensure that information is relayed between roles accurately.
- Offer explanations or elaborate on details if someone else is confused about something. You are expected to be knowledgeable, but not to know everything.
- If a niche situation occurs where there is no individual assuming the role of Manager, you take on the role of seeking out new Abnormalities' containment units and being the first to disseminate related information. It is also possible, if a bit inadvisable, for you to take the seat upstairs as the de facto Manager until someone more suitable arrives.
Things to Avoid Doing
Although you may be among the better roles, there are still plenty of restrictions. Some of them are common sense, like not griefing (which is obvious by this point) or harassing others, there are some things which are discouraged to an even greater degree:
- If someone is confused about something, don't ridicule them or become rude or condescending. Explain it to them to the best of your ability until they can understand it well enough.
- Your voice weighs around the same as a normal Agent's in things such as voting for Abnormalities or requesting E.G.O. Being the Captain does not give you immediately higher priority for such things unless there's another good reason for your request to come first.
- If there is a Disciplinary Officer or member of the Emergency Response Team, do not snag non-E.G.O equipment first! Those roles have priority over non-E.G.O gear due to a lowered stat requirement with said equipment. Ensure that your fellow Agents also try to follow this guideline.
Additional Tools
Apart from spawning with a normal Agent's kit, you gain the following tools:
- An L-Corp announcement tablet. Use it when you need to direly make announcements that could get caught up in the radio. You likely won't have this in hand all too often...
- A special radio headset that is capable of accessing all private department comms channels excluding Architecture; it also has the option to turn on high-volume mode if you need to be heard over the other chatter in the radio.
- A handheld command projector. It acts identically to the Manager's ping system, and you change the command ping issued by Using it in-hand.
Relationship with Other Roles
Other Agents
You are superior to other Agents in name and expertise. Guide those who need assistance. Should there be other notably experienced agents, you may delegate to them partial leadership.
Clerks
As usual, Clerks are there to assist you and your compatriots, whether it be through healing with the E.M.I.A.S, replacing broken lights (it happens more often than you'd think!), or creating food for you to munch on. Make sure to give them adequate respect, and try to not get them killed.
Extraction Officer
This is the person who gets you equipped with E.G.O gear in the first place! Respect them, and defend them to the best of your ability. If you need new E.G.O to stay on top of things, ask this person for it over the radio; if there's enough PE for the Abnormality, they should be able to ship it for you.
If you are tasked with refining PE Boxes, usually you'll bring them to the Extraction Officer once they've been refined. They can use the boxes to get special gear.
Records Officer
Alongside the facility's management, the Records Officer is a valuable source of information, as they bring information about Abnormalities to their cells in the form of papers and/or books, and give additional details relating to times (i.e. increasing meltdown timers or the time before an Abnormality arrives). Respect them, and keep them alive.
The Disciplinary/Emergency Response Team
Remember that Emergency Response Agents and the Disciplinary Officer are roles which are unable to work but prioritize combat. Try to keep them alive, as long as they're doing the same for you. You can also communicate with the Disciplinary Department privately with your radio headset.
The Manager and the Sephirot
The Manager of your facility is your direct superior, as they are the one making the major decisions which will affect the facility at large. Follow their directions in the way that brings the most beneficial results. They typically have the final say in decision-making, although this can be overridden or vetoed.
A Sephirah, if they arrive to the facility, is to be respected and treated in a similar fashion, as they are among the individuals with the most power in the facility as well, sometimes more than the Manager themself. Always be careful.
